Hyderabad: Police have arrested a caretaker for robbing an elderly couple of gold ornaments and a mobile phone in Himayath Nagar.
Identified as Parvathi Shankara Matam Govardhan (27), he was hired last year to help Anusuya (83) and Anand Rao (86) with daily needs.
Domalguda Police recovered stolen property worth Rs 3.25 lakh and arrested the accused after a swift investigation.
Trust betrayed by caretaker
The accused, Parvathi Shankara Matam Govardhan (27), had been employed by the victims, Anusuya (83) and Anand Rao (86), since November 2024 to help them with daily needs.

Addiction led to Crime
During the investigation, police found that Govardhan had become addicted to online betting platforms, incurring severe financial losses. To recover the money, he decided to rob his employers. His betrayal left the elderly couple shaken, police said.
Fled to Andhra Pradesh
After the crime, the accused fled to Kankipadu in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, and pledged the stolen gold bangles at Muthoot Finance for ₹3.25 lakh. Police tracked his movements through technical evidence and local enquiries.
Swift Police Action
On October 16, the Domalguda Police team apprehended Govardhan and recovered 6.7 tolas of gold ornaments and the stolen mobile phone from his possession.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of K. Shilpa Valli, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone), and B. Anand, Additional DCP (Central Zone), led by Ch. Sudhakar Rao, Detective Inspector of Police, along with his team.
Case under investigation
Police said further investigation is underway to verify whether the accused was involved in similar offences elsewhere.
