Hyderabad: A Telangana State Special Police (TSSP) constable has gone missing after reportedly falling into severe financial distress due to his addiction to online betting.
Identified as Ramesh, he was posted in TSSP 1st Battalion since his selection in 2018.
His wife has lodged a missing person complaint with the Madhuranagar Police. He has been married to Malleswari for five years, and the couple has two children.
Police said Ramesh had developed a habit of using online betting apps, which pushed the family into financial trouble. Although he had reportedly stopped using these apps over the past three months, the family continued to face monetary pressure.
In an attempt to manage the situation, Ramesh recently secured a loan of ₹3 lakh from a bank.
On Friday, he informed his family that he was going to the bank to complete the loan formalities, but never returned home. When repeated attempts to reach him by phone failed, his wife feared he might have lost the money to betting again.
Worried about his safety, Malleswari filed a missing person complaint. Based on her statement, the Madhuranagar Police registered a case on Saturday and launched an investigation to trace the missing constable.
Police teams are currently examining his financial records and phone activity to track his movements.
