Hyderabad: A police constable ended his life after he was allegedly falsely implicated in a ganja theft case.
Identified as Bhukya Sagar, the 34-year-old cop hailed from Enkoor in Khammam district. He has been serving in the police force since 2013.
According to police, in January this year, ganja was reportedly stolen from Burgampadu Police Station in Kothagudem district. Sagar was serving in the station during that time.
Following the incident, higher authorities suspended Sagar after an inquiry. Recently, he had been reinstated and posted to the Edulla Bayyaram Police Station in Pinapaka Mandal. He was expected to report to duty on October 13.
However, the day before he was to assume his new post, Sagar took an extreme step. Family members rushed him to a hospital in Hyderabad, where he died on Sunday evening.
Before taking the drastic step, Sagar recorded a selfie video, which he sent to his family. In the video, he expressed his anguish over being wrongfully implicated in the ganja case. He named an inspector, two sub-inspectors, and a civilian from Burgampadu, claiming their involvement in his ordeal.
Sagar reportedly gave a statement to his family at the hospital and reiterated his accusations. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Sagar's father Bhukya Kishan filed a complaint with the Enkoor police, alleging that the individuals mentioned by his son had driven him to suicide. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under section 108 read with 62 of the BNS Act 2023 and section of the SC/ST (POA) Act, against four people, including sub-inspectors Santhosh and Rajkumar, Inspector Satyanarayana of the Task Force, and a person Gonela Nani of Burgampadu.
