Hyderabad: A group of unidentified burglars broke into the residence of a businessman in Chaderghat on Friday night and reprotedly fled with 75 tolas of gold and Rs 2.50 lakh.

The incident occurred while the homeowner, Hafizuddin, and his wife were away visiting relatives.

According to Chaderghat police, the couple had left their children at home, who were asleep at the time of the break-in. The burglars, after entering the house, noticed the children in one of the rooms and reportedly bolted the door from outside to avoid alerting them. They then proceeded to the bedroom, where they collected valuables before escaping through the back door.

In a strange twist, the intruders also helped themselves to food and fruits from the house before fleeing. Hafizuddin returned late at night to find the house ransacked and the children's room locked from the outside. He immediately alerted the police.

A team from the Chaderghat police station, along with a tracker dog and forensic experts, arrived at the scene. The tracker dog traced the scent to Malakpet railway station before losing the trail. Fingerprints have been lifted from the crime scene and are being analyzed for potential matches with known offenders.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing, the police said.
