Hyderabad: In two separate cases, law enforcement officials discovered fraudulent profiles that posed a significant threat to public trust. Inspector Y. Premkumar of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a complaint detailing the existence of fake Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp profiles impersonating C.V Anand, IPS, Director General of ACB, Telangana.
The imposter accounts were found soliciting money and sending inappropriate messages, creating a misleading narrative involving a high-ranking police official.
A second case, reported by Constable K Sagar of the Cyber Crime Police Station, exposed a fake Facebook account bearing the name of Swathi Lakra IPS. The account, featuring images of Swathi Lakra as profile and cover photos, had accumulated 138 friends, presenting a convincing facade of authenticity. The incident raises concerns as individuals who trust such fake accounts might fall victim to fraudulent schemes.
Both cases have been registered on saturday with the Hyderabad cyber crimes police and are presently under investigation. The emergence of these incidents underscores a disturbing trend wherein cyber criminals exploit the credibility of police officials by fabricating their online personas.
