Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police have booked 238 individuals for drunk driving over the past weekend. A press release issued on Sunday highlighted that no female drivers were among those booked.

Two-Wheeler Riders Top Offenders’ List

The majority of violations were committed by two-wheeler riders, with 187 cases registered. Car drivers followed with 45 cases, while three-wheeler and heavy vehicle drivers accounted for 4 and 2 cases, respectively.

Cyberabad DCP (Traffic) S. Vijay Kumar noted, ā€œDespite consistent awareness drives, many still risk their safety and that of others by choosing to drive under the influence. These checks will continue with stricter enforcement.ā€

Most Offenders Aged Between 21 and 40

Among the 238 offenders:

83 were between 31 and 40 years old

78 were aged 21 to 30

12 were above 51 years

The department confirmed that no minors were apprehended during this weekend’s checks.

Chevella and Miyapur Top in Zone-Wise Cases

In a breakdown by area, Chevella zone saw the highest number of cases at 27, followed by Miyapur with 24. Other zones recorded lower numbers, indicating localized spikes in violations.

Drop in Weekly Offences

Compared to the 300 offenders booked the previous weekend, this week’s tally shows a decline of 62 cases. Police attributed the reduction to continued checks, public awareness campaigns, and increased on-ground vigilance.

Background: Cyberabad’s Drunk Driving Campaign

The Cyberabad police have been conducting regular drunk driving checks, particularly on weekends and holidays, targeting high-traffic zones, nightlife areas, and highway entry points. Offenders caught are subjected to fines, license suspension, and in severe cases, court appearances.

Police have also collaborated with ride-hailing services and issued advisories encouraging partygoers and late-night travelers to use cabs or designated drivers.

Advisory to the Public

The Cyberabad traffic wing reiterated its appeal to the public to avoid driving under the influence and to plan alternative transport options.
