Hyderabad: Due to financial troubles, mother dies by suicide with two children

Hyderabad: On Saturday evening, within the Shamirpet police station limits, a mother and her two children allegedly jumped into a pond and died by suicide.

According to the Shamirpet police, Markanti Swamy, a resident of Mulugu Mandal in Siddipet district, married Gundla Bhanupriya (28) from Manoharabad in Medak district nearly eight years ago. The couple, who work as labourers, have two childrenā€”Vedamsh Anand (5) and Diksha (4). Diksha has been battling cancer since birth, which has placed a heavy emotional and financial strain on the family.

On Thursday night, an argument erupted between Swamy and Bhanupriya over their inability to afford Dikshaā€™s treatment. In a moment of anger, Swamy reportedly slapped his wife, leaving her deeply saddened.

The next morning, before dawn, Bhanupriya left their home with her two children. Concerned for their safety, Swamy filed a missing personsā€™ report at the Mulugu police station. The situation took a tragic turn on Saturday evening when locals discovered the bodies of a woman and a child in a pond within the Shamirpet area. Upon receiving this information, the police were notified, and the bodies were recovered.

While the bodies of Bhanupriya and Diksha have been identified, the whereabouts of Vedamsh remain unknown. Due to the darkness, search efforts were halted and are expected to resume. As a missing persons case had already been registered at the Mulugu police station, Shamirpet police informed them of the developments.
