Hyderabad: A 34-year-old health sector employee from Hyderabad lost more than Rs 7 lakh after she downloaded a malicious APK file that gave access to bank account to hackers.
The police said it started when the victim received an APK file four days ago purportedly from an account claimed to be from āIndusInd Bank Online Processingā.
Since she had a bank account with IndusInd Bank, she assumed it might be genuine and opened the link.
The file prompted her to fill in all her personal details. However, she became suspicious and did not enter any information.
The next day, she started receiving SMS messages on her mobile about amounts being debited from her bank account. Though she informed her bank and immediately blocked her account, by the time the process could go through she lost all her savings, including fixed deposits, in multiple transactions.
The total amount lost was Rs 7,44,999. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.
