Hyderabad: In a gruesome incident, a 35-year-old man murdered his three-year-old son and threw the body into the Musi river.
The chilling crime, which occurred in the Bandlaguda area of Chandrayangutta on Friday night, came to light the next day after the father confessed to the killing.
Accused identified
The accused, Mohammed Akbar, a vegetable seller, killed his younger son Mohammed Anas allegedly due to frequent quarrels with his wife over the child’s health.
Police said the boy had been ill, and disputes between Akbar and his wife Sana Begum often centered on the child’s condition.
The Heinous Act
On Friday night, after his wife left for her hospital night shift, Akbar allegedly smothered Anas with a pillow. He then stuffed the body in a bag, carried it on his motorcycle, and dumped it into the Musi from Nayapul bridge.
Shockingly, he later filed a false missing complaint with the Bandlaguda police, claiming that the boy disappeared after being dropped near their house by relatives.
Police crack the case
Investigators grew suspicious when phone records showed no such calls received by Akbar. CCTV footage from the vicinity further revealed him leaving home with a bag early in the morning. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
Search for the body
Police, along with teams from HYDRAA and the Disaster Response Force (DRF), launched an intensive search in the Musi. Despite efforts on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, the child’s body has not been recovered.
Officials suspect the body may have been washed away due to heavy water flow following the release of flood water from the twin reservoirs.
Legal Action
Police have registered a case and arrested Akbar. The investigation is continuing, while rescue teams persist in their search efforts.
