A 22-year-old woman ended her life after her mother-in-law allegedly harassed her for dowry.

Humayun Nagar Inspector Narayana Reddy said Afnan had been married to Sheikh Numan of Vijayanagar Colony for eight months. However, her husband had gone to Australia for a job just two months after their marriage.

During this time, Afnan was subjected to harassment by her in-laws, who demanded dowry from her. This situation became unbearable for her, and she tragically ended her life at home.

Police have shifted the body to Osmania Mortuary for postmortem. The victim's family is devastated by the incident.

"This is a tragedy that could have been prevented," said the victim's mother. "We spent Rs one crore on our daughter's marriage hoping that she would lead a happy life. What happened is unimaginable, and we are still struggling to come to terms with it. Despite giving them everything, her in-laws demanded more money and subjected her to harassment and abuse.”

She alleged that her daughter was murdered by her in-laws and it was not a suicide.

Inspector Narayana Reddy said a case has been registered and an investigation has been started. "It's a tragic incident, and we are doing everything in our power to bring justice to the victim and her family," he said.
