Hyderabad: A 36-year-old firewood depot owner was brutally murdered on Sunday evening near Hafeezpet railway station within the Miyapur police station limits.
Long-standing business rivalry is suspected to be the motive for murder.
Identified as Srinu, he hailed from Jangamayyapalle near Wanaparthy. Police said he had migrated to Hyderabad five years back alone to support his family after facing financial difficulties in his village. Srinu ran a firewood shop close to Hafeezpet railway station.
According to Miyapur police, Srinu had frequent disputes with Shahil and others operating a nearby firewood shop, who reportedly saw him as a threat to their business. The rivalry turned deadly on Sunday evening when Shahil and three associates allegedly attacked Srinu while he was alone at his shop. The assailants used a knife and pieces of firewood to inflict severe injuries.
One of the attackers transported Srinu to a private hospital in Madinaguda. However, he fled after dropping him. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Miyapur Circle Inspector Sivaprasad and Sub-Inspector Krishnagoud visited the crime scene and registered a case. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the suspects and are investigating further into the motive behind the murder.
