Hyderabad: Hyderabad Enforcement Wing arrested two persons from Bihar for cultivating ganja on the terrace of a busy commercial building at Gunj Mission Market in Malakpet.
Six-month-long illegal farming
The accused were identified as Lavakush and Vimalesh, natives of Bihar. The duo had been living as tenants on the terrace of the building, which houses several retail shops on the ground floor.
Officials said the accused had been cultivating ganja plants on the terrace for the last six months and selling the processed narcotic for financial gain.
Plants towering up to six metres
Acting on specific intelligence, Enforcement CI Chandrashekhar Goud and SI Srinivas, along with their team, conducted a surprise raid.
During the operation, officials seized five fully grown ganja plants measuring between 3 and 6 metres in height, indicating systematic and planned cultivation.
Dried ganja, mobile phones seized
Besides the standing crop, the enforcement team also recovered 55 grams of dried ganja and two mobile phones from the possession of the accused, which are suspected to have been used in the illegal trade.
Yield estimated at 10 kilograms
Officials estimated that the seized plants could have produced nearly 10 kilograms of ganja had they been allowed to reach the harvesting stage.
Accused handed over to Excise Officials
Following the raid, the arrested persons, along with the seized contraband, were handed over to the Kachiguda Excise Station for further investigation and legal action, said Enforcement CI Chandrashekhar Goud.
