Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), in coordination with Langar House Police, dismantled an interstate drug network and arrested six persons, including suppliers from Odisha and a local peddler.

The police seized 5 kg of hash oil, 5 kg of ganja and other incriminating material, collectively valued at around Rs 70 lakh.

Joint operation based on credible information

Disclosing the case details before the media persons here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force/H-NEW, Hyderabad City) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said that acting on specific intelligence, the H-NEW team conducted a joint operation within the limits of Langar House Police Station on November 13.

During the operation, police apprehended one interstate hash oil courier, one supplier, one local peddler and two delivery agents, and registered a case under various provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 (Cr.No. 262/2025), the DCP said.

Drugs, vehicle and equipment seized

Police seized Hash oil (5 kg), Ganja (5 kg), Honda Aviator scooter (AP10 BD 2961), Mobile phones (5) and ₹5,690. Apart from that, packing material including weighing machine, drum, scissors, knife, stapler, papers and polythene covers were also seized from the possession of the accused.

Profiles of the accused

Interstate Hash Oil Courier:

Paul Khila (33), labourer, resident of Malkangiri district, Odisha.

Interstate Supplier:

Krushna Jalla (31), mason, resident of Koraput district, Odisha.

Local Peddler:

Vykunta Rao alias Balu (33), resident of Madhapur, Hyderabad, native of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh.

Delivery Agents:

Balaji (42), Rapido driver, resident of Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy district.

Chaitanya (17), student, native of Srikakulam district.

Repeat offender with Criminal History

Police said Vykunta Rao alias Balu is a habitual offender with prior involvement in narcotics cases. He was earlier arrested in 2020 by Sanathnagar Police while transporting 12 kg of ganja and later secured bail.

Despite another case registered against him in 2025 in Vizianagaram district, he continued drug trafficking and had been absconding with a non-bailable warrant pending against him.

Modus Operandi

According to investigators, the local peddler procured hash oil and ganja at low cost from Odisha through interstate suppliers and sold them in small sachets and bottles across Hyderabad and Cyberabad at high margins.

He used virtual mobile numbers to conceal his identity and employed distant relatives as delivery boys to distribute contraband discreetly, targeting urban consumers for easy profits and a lavish lifestyle.

Concern over growing drug abuse

The police expressed concern over the increasing involvement of educated youth, professionals and students in drug consumption and trafficking. Officials warned that substance abuse often leads to anti-social activities, posing a serious threat to families and society.
