Hyderabad: In true filmi style, man disguised as baba steals woman’s gold chain

Hyderabad: This real-life story had all the ingredients of a real-life potboiler. A man disguised as `Baba’ cheated a woman a la Ravi Teja starrer 'Vikramarkudu'. The incident occurred in Indraprastha Colony under LB Nagar Police Station limits.
According to the police, the accused found a woman Varalakshmi alone at home. Dressed like a 'Baba,' he made her believe that he is from Srisailam and that her home was under the influence of 'naradishti' (evil eye).
The woman who believed the accused allowed him into the house to discuss the issue. The accused, who pretended to perform puja, asked her to remove her gold chain (mangal sutra) and place it in front of him. He then told her to bring turmeric and ran away with a gold chain.
After realizing she was cheated, the woman checked the CCTV footage and complained to the LB Nagar police station. Police arrested the accused with the help of CCTV camera footage and seized the lost property.
The accused has been identified as Vibudhi Ramulu, a native of Nagar Kurnool. He has cheated many people after posing as a godman. During the investigation, it was revealed that the fake baba has also visited a few more houses in the neighborhood.
A similar incident was reported in Khammam recently when a fake baba cheated a politician in the name of performing puja for a great future in politics. He decamped with 5 tula gold and Rs 35,000 cash.
Kothagudem police arrested the accused while he was escaping in a car with another person. In this case, police found that the accused are from Rajasthan.
