Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man died of a suspected drug overdose at a residential apartment in Rajendranagar. Two of his friends, who were present in the same flat, tested positive for opium, police said.

The deceased, identified as Mohammed Ahmed, is suspected to have consumed four times more of the drug than his companions, leading to his death.

Drug party turns fatal

The incident took place at Provident Kenworth (Tower 1), a gated community under the Rajendranagar police limits. Ahmed and his two friends, Syed Bin Salam and Shaik Zara Piya, reportedly consumed opium together inside the flat.

A fourth woman who was also present during the gathering, however, tested negative for narcotics, officials confirmed.

Consumed excess quantity

According to B. Suman, Sub-Inspector of Rajendranagar Police, the trio allegedly purchased the narcotic from a dealer in Lakdikapul on Wednesday evening.

“Ahmed is believed to have consumed nearly four times the amount taken by the others. He lost consciousness and later began bleeding from his mouth. He died on the spot,” the officer said.

Friends raised alarm

The incident came to light when Ahmed’s friends panicked and called the police. Responding teams found the victim lying unresponsive on a bed, bleeding from his nose and mouth. Bloodstains were also found on the bedsheet and pillows, suggesting internal bleeding due to overdose.

Case registered, probe underway

Following a complaint by Ahmed’s father, the Rajendranagar Police registered a case under Section 194 (death under circumstances raising reasonable suspicion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigators have sent samples for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death and are tracing the source of the narcotics. Further investigation is in progress.
