Hyderabad: A job aspirant allegedly stabbed a 36-year-old manpower consultancy owner to death over a ₹1,000 refund at his office in Yousufguda on Tuesday.
A young receptionist who tried to intervene sustained serious injuries.
According to Banjara Hills ACP S Venkat Reddy, the deceased has been identified as J. Shashikiran Reddy (36), a native of Vijayawada, who was residing with his wife, Nagabharati, in an apartment at Yellareddyguda.
He had been running manpower consultancies under different names, Varahi, BGS, and Sairam, from an office near Metro Pillar No. 1482 for the past two years, providing job placements to unemployed youth.
Dispute over placement fee
The ACP said a 22-year-old man from Nalgonda had approached Shashikiran Reddy last month seeking employment. The consultancy owner allegedly collected Rs 2,500 and arranged a job for him at a hotel in Banjara Hills. However, the youth quit the job within two days, stating that he was not satisfied.
He later demanded a refund. Shashikiran Reddy reportedly returned Rs 1,500 but withheld the remaining Rs 1,000. On Tuesday, around 2 pm, the accused visited the consultancy office again and entered Shashikiran Reddy’s chamber on the third floor.
He allegedly locked the door from inside and demanded the remaining amount. Police said the youth threatened him, claiming he was already facing multiple cases and warning of serious consequences if the money was not returned.
Brutal attack inside chamber
During the heated argument, the accused allegedly stabbed Shashikiran Reddy in the neck with a knife. Hearing the victim’s screams, receptionist Laya alias Sai Shruti knocked on the chamber door. The attacker reportedly came out in a rage and stabbed her as well before fleeing the scene.
Following a Dial 100 call, police rushed to the spot and shifted both victims to a hospital. Shashikiran Reddy was declared dead on arrival, while Laya is undergoing treatment.
Tragedy strikes family
The incident has left the family shattered. Shashikiran Reddy’s wife, Nagabharati, had her baby shower ceremony last month and is expecting to deliver soon.
Family members said she was devastated upon learning of her husband’s death and lamented that he lost his life for helping someone secure a job.
