Hyderabad police busted hawala transaction, Rs  31.41L seized

Hyderabad: The sleuths of West Zone Task Force, Hyderabad police on November 18 busted two illegal hawala racket and recovered total Rs 31.41 lakh unaccounted cash from the accused.

In the first case, based on credible information, police seized Rs 13,50,000 and arrested two persons, Kannaiah Lal and Bhagirath from Osmangunj.

In the second case, police seized an amount of Rs 21,31,800 and arrested a person, Syed Ahmed from Sultan Bazar.

Police handed over the seized cash and arrested persons to respective police stations for further investigation.
Earlier this month, Hyderabad police launched a massive crackdown against hawala operators and seized Rs 1.97 crore in different operations from October 29 to November 1. Eight accused were also arrested in the raids.
Police sources said a big portion of the hawala money was to be used for buying votes in the Dubbaka by-election. Some of the illegal money was to be invested in the real estate business.

On November 1, police seized Rs 1 crore linked to Dubbaka by-election. Police arrested Surabhi Srinivas Rao, brother-in-law of BJP contestant from Dubbaka M Raghunandan Rao.

Police said that the cash was seized near Begumpet flyover while it was being transported for distribution to the voters. They also arrested the driver, T. Ravi Kumar, 33, for illegally transporting the money.

According to the task force, accused Surabhi Srinivas Rao is a native of Siddipet town but lives in Hyderabad. For the past 10 years, he has been running the firm `A to Z Solutions Limited' located in Patancheru.

Police found that Srinivas had collected the cash from the office of Visakha Industries, Begumpet, and it was to be delivered to Dubbaka where it would be distributed to voters.

Srinivas told the cops that a manager of Visakha Industries Limited, which is owned by the ex-MP of Pedappally G. Vivek Venkata Swamy, handed over the cash to him. Srinivas Rao was handed over to SHO of Begumpet police station for further investigation.
