Hyderabad: Police bust high-flying carjacking gang; arrest 5

Police have busted a carjacking gang and arrested five people from Hyderabad, all accused have been identified.

Hyderabad: Commissioner’s Task Force and Chilkalguda Police have busted a carjacking gang and arrested five people from Hyderabad. The accused were stealing cars and removing their chassis numbers to dupe gullible customers.


The accused have been identified as Thakur Shailender Singh, a clerk in Hotel Fish land at Lakidi-ka-pool; Abdul Raheem Khan, an Auto Electrician of Zamisthanpur; Shaik Javeed, an auto driver of Mahmoodguda; Varikuppala Dashrath, second-hand car sales dealer of Vasavinagar and Shanawaz Ali Khan, driver of Dayara Market.

Three people including the main accused Bappa Gosh, Kodimalla Paripurna Chary, and Kaleem are absconding. Police have recovered 18 Cars valued at Rs.2,45 crore. Vehicles recovered include three Innova Crysta, one Fortuner, six Brezza, three Baleno, two Swift Dzire, two Swift, and one Creta.

Police said on February 17, a complaint was registered at Chilkalguda Police Station against Raheem Khan and Bappa Gosh. Commissioner’s Task Force North Zone later apprehended Abdul Raheem Khan. He led the cops to the other accused. Later 18 cars were recovered from their possession. On verification, it was found that these vehicles were stolen from Delhi and UP and 14 cases were registered in these two states

The main accused Bappa Gosh is a native of Kolkata. Police said he used to steal expensive cars from Delhi and surrounding states, remove their original number plates, and change their engine and chassis numbers. Later, he used to fix fake number plates, make RCs of Maharashtra and West Bengal, and contact car dealers in different states.

“Raheem Khan, who is dealing in cars, contacted Bappa Gosh through his friend Shanawaz Ali Khan. Raheem Khan purchased two Cars and Shanawaz Ali Khan purchased one car from Bappa Gosh. Another accused Shaik Javeed also purchased cars from Bappa Gosh,” police said.

Police said Varikuppala Dashrath contacted Kodimalla Paripurna Chary to strike a deal with Bappa Gosh. “He gave contacts of Bappa Gosh to Dashrath. Later Dashrath contacted Bappa Gosh and purchased cars from him. Likewise, Thakur Shailender Singh purchased cars from Bappa Gosh,” police said.
