Hyderabad police deport Nigerian involved in drug trade, overstaying medical visa

Hyderabad: A 46-year-old Nigerian national who had been staying illegally in Hyderabad for several years and was involved in drug peddling was deported to his home country on Thursday.

The accused, Onuorah Solomon Chibueze, was living without valid travel documents and indulging in unlawful activities, police said.

Entered India on medical visa in 2014

Chibueze arrived in India on August 14, 2014, on a medical visa valid till September 23, 2014, through the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

He initially worked in a restaurant for about three years and later began exporting clothes to Nigeria. Following a dispute over unpaid wages, he moved to Bengaluru, where he took up another restaurant job before shifting to Hyderabad.

Moved to Hyderabad, turned to drug trade

In September 2024, Chibueze moved to Attapur and started living in a rented flat. Investigations revealed that he was procuring ganja from Pune and Mumbai and selling it to local consumers at higher prices to sustain a lavish lifestyle.

Caught during routine patrol

Police said Chibueze was found wandering suspiciously within Tolichowki police station limits and was detained for questioning. During interrogation, he failed to produce a valid passport or visa and admitted to overstaying in India long after his travel documents had expired.

FRRO facilitates deportation

Following verification, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad, initiated deportation proceedings. The Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi issued an Emergency Travel Document, and an exit permit was secured from FRRO.

On Thursday, Chibueze was deported to Nigeria via Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, under police escort.
