Hyderabad: The Chatrinaka police in Hyderabad have apprehended an individual accused of smuggling drugs by hiding them in books that resembled Oxford Dictionaries to evade suspicion. The accused was found in possession of ganja and MDMA drugs with an estimated street value of Rs 3.81 lakhs, along with a car.
The details of the operation were disclosed to the media by South Zone DCP P Sai Chaitanya.
The accused, identified as 24-year-old Goswami Ashish Gir from Mangalhat, was employed at a garment shop. It was revealed that the accused had a history of selling ganja and other drugs to earn quick money. He had been previously apprehended by the police and served time at Chanchalguda Jail. It was during his incarceration that he befriended Milan Debanth, an Odisha-based drug peddler.
Upon his release from jail, the accused reportedly purchased ganja from Milan at a rate of Rs 8,000 per kilogram and sold it for Rs 15,000 per kilogram. Additionally, he acquired approximately 18 grams of MDMA from KM alias Sayyed SK alias Babe from Mumbai, purchasing at Rs 1,500 per gram and selling at Rs 4,000 per gram.
Acting on a tip-off received on Friday regarding the transportation of drugs by the accused in his four-wheeler vehicle through Uppuguda Jhanda, the police rushed to the area and organised a vehicle check. They stopped a Maruti Suzuki Swift driven by the accused and found 6.255 kg of ganja, 18.750 grams of MDMA, a snorting kit disguised as an Oxford Dictionary, and a pocket notebook containing the names and numbers of drug peddlers and consumers in his vehicle.
