Hyderabad police seize 195 liquor bottles, arrest three for illegal IMFL trade

Hyderabad: Cracking down on the illicit liquor trade, the South Zone Task Force of Hyderabad Police, along with Chatrinaka Police, arrested three persons on Wednesday for illegally procuring and selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

Police seized 70.2 litres (195 bottles) of various liquor brands, valued at around Rs 50,000.

Prime accused is a repeat offender

The main accused, N Shobha Rani alias Lalithamma (50), a resident of Lalithabagh in Chatrinaka, is a habitual offender in the trade.

She allegedly bought liquor in bulk from wine shops and resold it at her residence after business hours, charging customers higher rates.

Police revealed that as many as 33 cases under the Excise Act and Prohibition Acts have already been registered against her.

Two others nabbed

The other accused were identified as Deepak Kumar (26) and Nitish Kumar (21), both residents of Chatrinaka. They reportedly transported liquor bottles on motorcycles and assisted in selling them to local customers.

Raid and seizure

Acting on a tip-off, the South Zone Task Force raided the area and caught the accused red-handed while transporting and selling liquor. In total, 70.2 litres of IMFL and beer bottles were seized during the operation.

Cases registered

The seized property and the accused were handed over to the Chatrinaka Police Station. Two separate cases were booked under Section 34(a) of the Telangana Excise Act. Further investigation is underway.
