Hyderabad: Private employee loses Rs 1.78 lakh to caller posing as RBL bank agent

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old private employee from Hyderabad was duped of almost Rs 2 lakh by an unidentified caller posing as an RBL bank representative.
The police said that the victim received a call from an unknown person (8945882114) asking for her information for a KYC update.
The person sent a link to the victim via WhatsApp and guided her to update her RBL Credit Card details.
While on the call, the victim entered their card details as instructed. Shortly after, the victim started receiving messages of cash being debited from her HDFC bank account.
Shocked, the victim questioned the fraudster, who immediately disconnected the call. Without any delay, the victim contacted HDFC bank and ONE CARD (Federal Bank) to freeze her accounts.
However, by evening, the victim received another debit message, this time from AXIS Bank. The total amount lost by the victim was Rs 1,78,363.
Public advisory
- Never respond to emails and embedded links in messages and calls asking you to update or verify KYC documents pending.
- Never share user ID/password/debit card number/PIN/CVV/OTP etc. If you have done so, immediately change your credentials.
- Bank officials, financial institutions, the RBI and any genuine entity will never ask customers to share confidential information.
- Never share these confidential details with anyone, even your own family members and friends.
