Hyderabad: On Friday, the Hyderabad police arrested Dr B Lakshmi alias Bhagya Lakshmi (63), a retired director at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), in connection with a financial fraud case involving fake invoices and forgery.
According to a complaint filed by B Jagadesh Kumar, the administrative officer of ASCI, Dr Lakshmi profited from allegedly manipulating financial records submitted to the institution. She was the director of the Centre for Human Resource Development and the Centre for Agriculture Rural Development (CHRD & CARD) at ASCI.
Created fake resumes of āprofessionalsā for training programmes
She reportedly created false invoices in the names of people she knew. She prepared fake resumes and forged their signatures on invoices by falsely showing them as experts, used their services in her training programmes and transferred huge amounts into their accounts from ASCI.
Subsequently, Dr Lakshmi allegedly instructed them to withdraw the credited amounts and hand them over to her for personal use. She has been accused of impersonation by making fraudulent forged invoices as valuable security documents with criminal intentions.
The police said that Dr Lakshmiās personal assistant, M Ravi Kumar, along with other unidentified associates, made a significant financial loss for ASCI at Bella Vista Campus on Raj Bhavan Road, between 2021 and 2024.
The police arrested Dr Lakshmi, a resident of Manikonda, on Friday. She has been remanded to judicial custody. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the CCS, Hyderabad, registered the case under sections 420, 406, 408, 468, 471, 467, 419 IPC r/w 120-B IPC of EOW Team-VII. Further investigation is on.
