Hyderabad: A 65-year-old retired pharmacist died after falling from an elevator shaft in his apartment at Priya Colony, Gudimalkapur.

He has been identified as M.S. Samiullah Baig. The accident occurred under the Asif Nagar police station limits on Sunday afternoon.

Baig, who had recently undergone cataract eye surgery on the 17th of this month, was at home with his wife, while the rest of his family had gone out.

At around 5 p.m., Baig attempted to use the buildingā€™s lift to go down from the fourth floor to the ground floor.

According to Asif Nagar police, Baig pressed the lift button, and the door slid open. However, the lift platform had not arrived on the fourth floor. Unaware of this, Baig stepped into the elevator shaft and fell four floors down to the ground.

He was immediately taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

This incident has raised concerns about the maintenance and safety standards of elevators in residential buildings. The Asif Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating the accident to determine the cause of the lift malfunction and whether any negligence was involved.
