Hyderabad: A rowdy-sheeter from Hyderabad was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing a security guard and injuring another during a violent altercation at a land-based casino in Panaji, Goa.
The accused, Abdul Altaf (25), who is listed as a rowdy-sheeter at the Mailardevpally police station under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, is said to be a frequent visitor to casinos in Goa.
According to police, he was in an intoxicated state when he created a disturbance at a casino located in a prominent star hotel in the city. When security personnel attempted to restrain him, Altaf allegedly turned violent and attacked them with a sharp weapon.
The assault led to the death of Dheeru Sharma (33), a security guard, while another guard, Satyam Gaonkar, sustained injuries. Following the incident, Altaf attempted to flee Goa and was reportedly on his way to Dabolim airport to escape by flight.
However, Panaji police tracked him down and arrested him before he could leave the state. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are also examining Altafās prior criminal record and possible links to similar disturbances.
