Hyderabad: An 81-year-old man lost Rs 7.11 lakh after he allegedly fell prey to the emotional blackmail of a woman impersonator.

Wife approaches police

The victim’s 74-year-old wife complained to the police, stating that her husband had started receiving calls and messages in June from a woman identifying herself as Maya Rajput.

Sweet talk turned into exploitation

Police said the fraudster first engaged the elderly man with affectionate words, gradually winning his trust. Later, she coerced him into transferring money into multiple bank accounts and UPI IDs.

Money siphoned on false pretexts

The fraudster allegedly demanded funds citing various reasons such as medical treatment, release of mortgaged jewellery, property registration charges, and purchase of household goods.

Family bonds targeted

The complainant told police that the accused also manipulated her husband against his family members, leaving him confused and unable to distinguish between right and wrong.

Case registered

Police have booked a case and initiated a probe to track down the fraudster and recover the defrauded amount.
