Hyderabad: Shock, anger, and outrage have gripped Nallakunta after a man allegedly set his wife on fire in front of their children after suspecting her fidelity.
The accused was arrested by the police within 12 hours of the crime.
Brutal attack inside the house
According to police, the accused, Venkatesh, attacked his wife, Triveni, inside their residence, poured petrol on her, and set her ablaze while their children were present. When their daughter tried to intervene and save her mother, the accused allegedly pushed the child into the flames, causing her minor injuries.
Neighbours rush to help
Hearing screams from the house, local residents rushed in and shifted the victims to a hospital. By the time they arrived, Triveni had succumbed to her injuries. Their daughter survived with minor burns and is currently out of danger.
Background of marital dispute
Venkatesh and Triveni, natives of Huzurabad in Nalgonda district, were in a love marriage and had two children, a daughter and a son. Police said Venkatesh frequently suspected his wife and subjected her to harassment, leading to frequent quarrels.
Unable to bear the harassment, Triveni had earlier gone to her mother’s house. Recently, Venkatesh reportedly convinced her to return, promising to change, and brought her back to Hyderabad. Within days of their return, the crime took place.
Swift police action
Following the incident, the accused fled the scene. Nallakunta police registered a case and launched a manhunt. Venkatesh was traced and arrested within 12 hours of the murder.
Police said further investigation is underway, and the accused will be produced before the court.
