Hyderabad software employee loses Rs. 89,800 in WhatsApp scam

Hyderabad: A software employee in Hyderabad fell victim to a WhatsApp scam and lost Rs. 89,800 after being promised high earnings. Bhaskar Rao Kaumuri, a 26-year-old residing in Jawahar Nagar, Yousufguda, filed a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police on Thursday.

According to Mr. Kaumuri, a person named Tashi introduced himself as a WhatsApp team member and offered him the opportunity to earn Rs. 3,000 per day. Tashi asked Mr. Kaumuri to download the Telegram app and watch YouTube links and get paid. Initially, Mr. Kaumuri was paid Rs. 25 and Rs. 50, but later, Tashi asked him to deposit Rs. 1,000, Rs. 6,000, and finally Rs. 22,200 to earn more money. Tashi promised Mr. Kaumuri he would receive Rs. 61,000 if he deposited Rs. 1,70,000. However, when Mr. Kaumuri asked for a refund, Tashi did not reply. Eventually, Mr. Kaumuri realised that he had become a victim of cyber fraud.
