Hyderabad student dies in road accident in Chicago

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old student from Hyderabad, pursuing her higher studies in the United States, lost her life in a road accident in Chicago late on Monday night (IST).

The deceased, identified as Sreeja Varma, had recently completed her Master’s degree and was planning the next phase of her career.

Family background

According to relatives, Sreeja hailed from Ramarukala village in Siddipet district. She was the elder daughter of Srinivas Varma and Hemalatha, who moved to Hyderabad several years ago for a livelihood.

The family has been residing at Srikrishnanagar near Gandimaisamma Crossroads in Medchal district. Srinivas works as a driver, while Hemalatha is employed at a private firm.

Accident details

On Monday night, Sreeja stepped out of her apartment to have dinner at a restaurant with a friend. After the meal, while returning in her car, a truck rammed into the vehicle. The impact left Sreeja with severe injuries, leading to her death on the spot.

Sister is also in the US

Sreeja’s younger sister, Shreya Varma, had also recently travelled to the US, just 20 days ago, to pursue her Master’s degree.

Meanwhile, Sreeja’s family has appealed to Telugu associations in the US for help in expediting the repatriation of her mortal remains to India.
