Hyderabad: Police have arrested a 25-year-old student for stalking a 34-year-old woman professor at the Ramanaidu Film School in Filmnagar.
Identified as 25-year-old N. Bharat Reddy from Anantapur district, he was arrested by Filmnagar police and remanded to judicial custody.
The accused stalked the professor relentlessly, despite repeated warnings and even expulsion from the institute.
Proposals turned into harassment
The 34-year-old professor has been working at the film school for two years. Reddy joined the direction course in August last year and soon began professing love to her, even proposing marriage. When she rejected his advances and cautioned him against crossing boundaries, he continued to trouble her.
Expelled from the school
Disturbed by his behavior, the professor lodged a complaint with the principal earlier this year. Acting on it, the school expelled Reddy in February. However, the action failed to stop him. He allegedly began stalking her online, sending Instagram messages, and following her to places she visited.
Social media tracking
Police said Reddy kept track of the woman’s movements through her social media updates. On August 22, he appeared at Moonshine Pub after learning of her presence there on Instagram. On August 25, he followed her again, this time to the writers’ room inside the studio premises.
Arrest and remand
Unable to bear the harassment, the professor finally approached the police. Based on her complaint, Filmnagar police arrested Reddy, booked a case of stalking, and produced him in court. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
