Hyderabad: Woman loses money in online games, resorts to blackmail to fund her addiction; held

Hyderabad: Police have arrested a woman who blackmailed and extorted Rs 25000 from a private employee after seeking a ride at SNT Junction.
On December 25, Gutti Jangaiah of Rasul Pura was on his way to Gachibowli on a two-wheeler when Bodige Archana (35), requested a lift. Soon after, she coerced him into giving her Rs. 25000, threatening to disrobe if he refused.
Banjara Hills police led by Detective Inspector Sheikh Zakir Hussain and Sub-inspector Karunakar Reddy investigated the case, uncovering Archana's trail through extensive nearly 100 CCTV footage analysis. The masked and goggled culprit was caught on camera withdrawing money from a Karnataka Bank branch at Banjara Hills Road No. 2.
A resident of Rangareddy district and, a mother of three, lost her 16-year-old daughter to illness two years ago, plunging her into deep mental distress.
Coping with the loss, she sought relief in online games, leading to a loss of lakhs of rupees. Her descent into addiction took a criminal turn as she resorted to extortion to fuel her gaming habits.
Archana's troubling past unfolded during the investigation, revealing a pattern of threats and extortion against at least ten to fifteen individuals in the past. Shockingly, her father is a retired sub-inspector of police, adding an unexpected twist to the narrative.
The case serves as a clear indication of the potential consequences of unchecked online addiction and the need for mental health support in the aftermath of traumatic events.
