Hyderabad: Woman passenger conceals heroin in suitcase’s false cavity; held at airport

By Newsmeter Network Published on 9 May 2023 3:01 AM GMTHyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 5.9 kilograms of heroin from a woman passenger at RGI airport in Hyderabad.
The seized heroin is valued at approximately Rs 41.3 crore in the open market. A woman passenger was traveling from the South East African country Malawi to Hyderabad via Doha.
Based on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an Indian national arriving from Malawi to Hyderabad via Doha on Sunday.
Examination of the checked-in baggage of the passenger resulted in the recovery of 5.90 kg of creamy white powder granules in transparent packets, concealed within false cavities of the suitcase.
On testing with the narcotics field-testing kits, the substance tested positive for “heroin”, a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act, 1985. The seized NDPS substance, collectively weighing 5.90 kg, is valued at approx. Rs.41.3 crore in the illicit market. The substance was ingeniously concealed within false cavities in the checked-in suitcase.
The contraband has been seized & the passenger has been arrested & remanded to judicial custody under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Further investigation is underway.
