Hyderabad: Police have arrested a landlord for installing a hidden camera in the room of two young women tenants at Hailam Colony.
Identified as Syed Saleem, he owns a five-storied building at Hailam Colony near Jubilee Hills Road No-10, The 45-year-old landlord and his family reside on the first floor. He has given the remaining floors on rent.
According to Jubilee Hills police, around two months ago, two young women accompanied by their brother took the room on rent. Saleem discreetly placed a current meter box in their room, claiming that it controls electrical fluctuations.
However, inside this box, he had ingeniously concealed a CCTV camera. The camera was used to record the daily activities of the young women, particularly while they changed clothes. The recorded footage was then stored on a DVR that Saleem had specially arranged for this purpose.
The incident came to light on Monday when one of the victims, growing suspicious, decided to inspect the meter box with the help of her brother. To their shock, they discovered the hidden camera. Upon further examination, it was revealed that the camera's wires led to a computer in Saleem's residence. Alarmed by the discovery, the victim lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police.
Police registered a case against Saleem under section 354(c), 509 of IPC, and section 67 of the IT Act. Police also searched Saleem's house and seized two DVRs. These devices contained recorded footage of the young women. Based on the evidence, Jubilee Hills police arrested Syed Saleem on Tuesday evening.
The confiscated items include the current meter box with the concealed CCTV camera installed in the young women's room. Police are now conducting further investigations to determine the full extent of the recordings and any other victims.
