Hyderabad:2,056 found driving under the influence in July, August; Rs 1.7 Cr fines collected
By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 Aug 2021 11:30 AM GMTHyderabad: As part of the ongoing drunk and drive checks by the city police, 2,056 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol in July up to 20 August. As many as 1,670 chargesheets were filed against them and they were produced at the third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally, Hyderabad.
A respondent's driving license has been canceled. A total fine of Rs 1,74,50,100 has been levied on 1,666 respondents. Another 386 violators will be produced in court after filing chargesheet against them.
The respondents who were convicted in drunken drive and other traffic violations may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance. If anyone drives a vehicle in drunken condition and causes a fatal accident, insurance will not be covered as per the IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India) rules. Similarly, in the case of injury or death while triple riding insurance is not covered.
The violators who committed the offense were counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive against drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters. The Hyderabad Traffic police requests all the motorists not to drive the vehicle under while drunk.
