Hyderabad: The Rachakonda special operations team (SOT) busted an illegal online cricket betting racket here on Tuesday and arrested five persons and seized Rs. 14 lakh cash.

Based on credible information, the sleuths of SOT LB Nagar zone of Rachakonda commissionerate busted the racket under the limits of Chaithanyapuri police station and arrested the organizer Bairamal Sridhar (36) and four punters – Sambram Ramanjaneyulu (26), Jajula Ramu Goud (43), Boinpally Chatrapathi (51), and Gouni Kalyan (40).

They seized Rs. 14,92,500 cash, a laptop, and eight mobile phones - all worth Rs. 16 lakh - from their possession.

The police found that Bairamal Sridhar has been running an online cricket betting racket from his home in Mohan Nagar Colony under the limits of Chaithanyapuri police station. He was downloading online cricket apps like Cricket Line Guru and Cricket Exchange from the Google Play store. The apps show real-time cricket scores. Besides this, it also displays the name of the favorite team and the prediction of the match-winning ratio. Sridhar used these features to start illegal betting on cricket matches.

Interested punters could bet from 100 to thousands of rupees and change their prediction ball-by-ball at any stage until the completion of the match. The punters could also bet and change their prediction sessions-wise, i.e. at the 6th, 10th, 15th, and 20th over. Finally, the punter whose prediction proved correct would get the profit - double the betting amount.

Sridhar and Sambram Ramanjaneyulu had conducted online betting during the last two ICC world cups and the recent T-20 matches - India vs Pakistan (held on 24 October 2021) and Afghanistan vs Scotland (held on 25 October). The gang was preparing for Tuesday's betting on West Indies vs South Africa and Pakistan vs New Zealand matches when the SOT LB Nagar zone team along with Chaithanyapuri police raided the house and caught them red-handed.
