Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal firecracker storage in a crowded residential area, the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, Hyderabad, in coordination with Tirumalgherry Police, raided a godown in Teachers Colony, Tirumalgherry.
The police seized firecrackers worth approximately Rs 45 lakh. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
Illegal storage in a congested residential area
The raid took place on October 11, following a tip-off about explosive firecrackers being stored illegally in a densely populated area. The godown, located beside Durga Agency in Teachers Colony, falls under Tirumalgherry Police Station limits.
The accused, Abhimanyu Kumar Sharma, 54, who runs a firecracker business, was found storing a large quantity of explosive firecrackers without proper documentation. Authorities said storing such materials in a residential locality posed a severe fire hazard and endangered human lives and property.
Details of the seizure
The Task Force and Tirumalgherry Police seized a total of 250 cartons containing various brands of firecrackers, including: Zameen Chakra (20 boxes), Red Bijili – (32 boxes), Colour Flower Pots (10 boxes), Standard Shots (12 boxes), Laxmi Bomb (16 boxes), Standard Laxmi Bomb (20 boxes).
Flower Pots (26 boxes), Sparkles (16 boxes), 5 Colour Fancy (8 boxes), 2 Sheets (20 boxes), 30 Shots – (16 boxes),15 Shots (6 boxes), Bomb Rocket (10 boxes), Ladi (10 boxes), Gift Box (8 boxes), and Pop Up (20 boxes).
The total value of the seized firecrackers is estimated at around Rs 45 lakh.
Legal action and investigation
A case has been registered under Cr. No. 258/2025, invoking Sections 288, 125, 223 BNS & 9B(1)(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884.
Authorities have cautioned the public against illegally storing explosive materials and stressed strict adherence to safety norms to prevent potential fire hazards.
