Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two more accused in the sensational inter-state human organ trafficking case linked to illegal kidney transplants at multiple hospitals in Hyderabad.

A total of 19 accused have been arrested so far in the case.

Key accused nabbed

The arrested include Pamulapati Pavan Kumar alias Leon, a resident of Tadepalligudem, Andhra Pradesh and Pardeep Kumar Gupta alias Pradeep Agarwal, a businessman from Gurgaon, Haryana.

They were apprehended on Wednesday at LB Nagar, Hyderabad and Chandigarh respectively by two special CID teams from Sangareddy.

Modus operandi unveiled

According to CID officials, Pavan Kumar is the prime accused who, in collusion with doctors like Dr Rajashekar and Dr Avinash, arranged donors and recipients for illegal kidney transplant surgeries at Alakananda, Janani and Aruna Hospitals in Hyderabad.

He operated an organised network of brokers in Tamil Nadu to identify poor and vulnerable individuals willing to sell their kidneys due to financial distress. Further, Pavan Kumar employed brokers like Pradeep Kumar in Bengaluru and Pardeep Gupta in Haryana to identify affluent patients in need of kidneys.

For each transplantation, Pavan Kumar allegedly charged commissions between Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh, using the illicit earnings to purchase luxury cars and gamble in casinos in Sri Lanka.

Role of Pardeep Gupta

CID officials revealed that Pardeep Gupta arranged kidneys for nearly 10 patients across Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra, earning a commission of around Rs 10 lakh for each transplantation.

Case background

The case was originally registered at Saroornagar Police Station based on a complaint by the deputy DM & HO, Ranga Reddy District, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994. It was later transferred to CID for deeper investigation.

With these fresh arrests, a total of 19 accused have been arrested so far. The CID is continuing efforts to nab other absconding suspects involved in this inter-state organ trafficking racket.
