Hyderabad: With the Sankranti festival approaching and large numbers of city residents travelling to their native places, the Hyderabad Police have issued a safety advisory, urging citizens to take basic precautions to prevent theft during the festive season.

The advisory, issued by Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, is intended to help residents celebrate Sankranti with peace of mind, assured that their homes remain secure while they are away.

'Inform police and we will patrol your vacant homes'

The police have appealed to families leaving Hyderabad for several days to inform their nearest police station or beat officers before locking their houses.

This, officials said, would help patrol teams keep a watch on vacant homes as part of routine surveillance and prevent burglary attempts.

Avoid leaving valuables at home

Citizens have been strongly advised not to leave cash, gold or other valuables unattended at home while travelling. Instead, the police recommend securing valuables in bank lockers or making other safe arrangements to minimise the risk of loss.

Focus on crime prevention

Emphasising the importance of proactive policing, the Hyderabad Police said modern law enforcement is not only about responding to crimes but also about preventing them through awareness and public cooperation.

Simple precautions by residents can significantly reduce crime during peak travel periods like Sankranti.

Emergency helpline

The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding homes across the city during the festival season and called for public cooperation to maintain law and order.

Citizens have been advised to dial 100 in case of any emergency.
