Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Ameenpur Police, in coordination with the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Serilingampally Zone, Cyberabad, arrested an interstate drug peddler and two consumers on Saturday.

The police seized 2.7 kilograms of opium and Rs 50,000 in cash during the operation.

The accused were apprehended based on credible intelligence inputs indicating that the contraband was being transported from Rajasthan to Ameenpur for sale.

Accused identified

The arrested persons have been identified as:

- Vishnoi Heta Ram (50), a native of Dungarpur village, Rohat mandal, Pali district, Rajasthan.

- Bagdaram (56), resident of Kadthal, originally from Kushalpur village, Rajasthan.

- Godara Subhash (21), resident of Ameenpur and native of Phoolan village, Samdhari mandal, Barmer district, Rajasthan.

Police stated that Vishnoi Heta Ram was operating as an inter-state supplier, while the other two accused had arrived to purchase the narcotic substance.

How the operation unfolded

According to officials, on February 20, at around 8 am, police received specific information that a person was arriving from Rajasthan with a consignment of opium to sell it near Maharaj Tiles Shop in Ameenpur.

Acting swiftly, teams from Ameenpur Police Station and the SOT, Serilingampally Zone, conducted a coordinated operation and apprehended Vishnoi Heta Ram during the morning hours.

Upon search, 2.7 kg of opium was recovered from his possession.

Subsequently, Bagdaram and Subhash were also detained when they arrived at the location to purchase the contraband.

Officials emphasised the role of parents, teachers and community leaders in creating awareness among youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
