Jawaharnagar police inspector P Bikshapathi Rao, constable B Arun set ablaze by mob at Balajinagar

A police inspector and a constable suffered severe burn injuries when they were set ablaze by a group of people at Balajinagar on Thursday.

Hyderabad: A police inspector and a constable suffered severe burn injuries when they were set ablaze by a group of people at Balajinagar on Thursday.

Identified as Inspector P Bikshapathi Rao, and Constable B Arun, they were discharging their duties during a demolition drive when a group of people threw inflammable substance and set them ablaze.

Police said on Thursday, the Jawaharnagar inspector received a requisition from N Mangamma, Municipal Commissioner requesting for police protection to remove illegal construction from the government land.

According to police, when the Municipal and Revenue Authorities along with police force reached the spot, a group of people identified as Poonam Chand, Nihal Chand, Shante hi Devi, Nirmal, Balsingh, Chinarampatel, Geetha, Godavari, Yogi Kamal, Madan Lal, and some local politicians including Rangula Shankar, Shobha Reddy, and their associates gathered unlawfully and obstructed government officials from discharging their legitimate duties. They used filthy language and sprinkled chili powder on them.

Police said Nihal Chand, Shanthi Devi, and Nirmala, who were already inside the illegally constructed room bolted it from inside. "Suddenly huge flames and smoke started billowing out which led to speculation that the persons inside were resorting to self-immolation. When inspector P Bikshapathi Rao and constable B Arun tried to open the door, Nihal Chand, Shanthi Devi, and Nirmal poured some inflammable substance on them and set them on fire," said police.

Both P Bikshapathi Rao and B Arun received severe burns injuries. They were immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Police have registered two different cases. A case under section 353, 332, 186 of IPC was registered against the mob for assaulting and hampering the government officials from discharging their duties.

Another case was registered on the complaint of Mangamma, Municipal Commissioner of Jawahar Nagar against Nihal Chand, Shantha Devi, Nirmal, Poonam Chand, Balsingh, Chinarampatel, Geetha, Godavari, Yogi Kamal, Madan Lal, and some local political leaders Rangula Shankar, Shobha Reddy, and their associates for attempting to murder police Personnel under a pre-hatched plan. They were booked under section 332, 333,353,307,504 of IPC.

The investigation has been handed over to Inspector UPPAL and is being monitored by DCP Malkajgiri.
