Job Fraud in Cyberabad: One held for cheating people by giving fake offer letters

Hyderabad: Sleuths of Cyber Crime, Cyberabad arrested a person for manipulating people in the pretext of providing jobs and cheating them of more than Rs 5 lakhs.

The police said that the person perpetuated the job fraud by giving people fake offer letters.

The accused was identified as Kilaru Seethaiah, a resident of Nandigama, NTR District, Andhra Pradesh. He manipulated victims and extorted money of Rs 5,64,980 under the pretext of offering them jobs.

The police also seized a laptop from the accused used in the offence.

Case details

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crimes), Cyberabad K Narasimha said that this is a case of job fraud wherein the fraudster posed himself as a senior employee at Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd. The accused falsely claimed there were job vacancies available. He presented fake job offers to victims, detailing non-existent positions and a future joining date. Based on the facts, the police registered a complaint and investigated the matter, he said.

Accused took personal details from job websites

The DCP said that the fraudster took the contacts of the job profiles posted in the Naukari and LinkedIn websites. Then he gets in contact with the victims posing as a senior employee at Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd, and could help them to get a job if they are willing on a chargeable basis.

On believing him, the victims send the amount to the fraudster initially as a token amount and he conducts the fake interviews and gives them fake joining letters at a later date and collects the amount from the victims. The victims come to know they are being cheated when they reach out to the mentioned office in the offer letter on the date of joining.

The accused lured the victims and used the amount to trade in the stock market and play online games. He was also involved in various cases under Cyber Crime police stations of Cyberabad and Hyderabad, Narasimha said.

Public advisory

- The Cyberabad Police Department advises the public to exercise caution when approached with offers for job placements. It is essential to verify the authenticity of job offers through official company channels and avoid making payments to individuals claiming to secure employment opportunities.

- In case of any suspicious activity, report to the police immediately through the toll-free number 1930 and lodge a complaint in the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) immediately.
