Hyderabad: Police have registered a criminal case against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Maganti Sunitha for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the poll campaign in Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.
Complaint by Returning Officer
According to police, P. Sai Ram, Returning Officer of the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency, lodged a complaint after receiving a representation from Sama Ram Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Media and Communications, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).
The complainant alleged that Maganti Sunitha and other BRS leaders distributed voter slips bearing the name and party symbol of the candidate across various localities in the constituency. This act, he stated, constitutes a violation of the Election Commission’s guidelines and the Model Code of Conduct.
Court Permission and Case Details
Based on the Returning Officer’s report dated October 29, 2025, and after obtaining court permission, the Borabanda Police registered a case on Thursday.
The case has been booked under Cr. No. 678/2025, invoking Sections 171, read with 174 and 176 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The alleged incident occurred in the Erragadda–Borabanda area of Hyderabad.
Investigation taken up
The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector A Nagendra Babu of the Borabanda Police Station. Preliminary inquiries are in progress to verify the allegations and gather supporting evidence. Officials confirmed that the Clues Team did not visit the scene as part of the initial investigation.
Background
The Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct strictly prohibits the distribution of material that directly solicits votes by displaying a party’s name or symbol near polling areas or through voter-related documents. Violation of these norms attracts penal action under relevant sections of the law.
