Kakinada: Lab technician, attendants among 4 arrested for sexually harassing Rangaraya Medical College students

Kakinada: Police have arrested four employees of Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, for allegedly sexually harassing students.

The arrests came after as many as 50 students filed complaints against them.

50 students file complaints

According to Kakinada District Collector Sagili Shan Mohan, the college principal received an email from a student on July 9, complaining about the harassment. Subsequent inquiries revealed that 50 girl students faced harassment from four employees working in the biochemistry lab.

Who are the accused

Most complaints were against Kalyan Chakravarthy, a lab attendant, who allegedly sent obscene messages to students on WhatsApp. The other accused include Jimmy Raju, Gopalakrishna, and Prasad, all lab technicians. All four have been suspended from duty.

Criminal cases registered

Superintendent of Police G Bindu Madhav stated that criminal cases were registered after three formal complaints were lodged at two police stations in Kakinada on Friday. Police are also probing whether similar incidents occurred in the past.

CM and Home Minister respond

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took serious note of the incident and directed officials to act firmly against the accused.

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha also spoke to the District Collector and SP, instructing them to ensure stringent action. She warned that such acts of sexual harassment would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
