Kakinada: A 60-year-old man, who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl after posing as her grandfather, died by suicide.
Identified as Tatika Narayana Rao, he jumped into the lake when police halted a jeep.
Police were reportedly taking Narayana Rao to produce before the magistrate on Wednesday night when the incident occurred.
Reports said Rao asked the cops to stop as he wanted to relieve himself. When the jeep was halted, he suddenly jumped into the lake. Police have called it a case of suicide.
His body was recovered on Thursday morning.
According to the reports, Narayana Rao pretended to be the grandfather of the student at the Gurukul school. He took her out on the pretext of visiting the hospital, as the girl was not well.
He committed the crime in a garden near Thondangi. After the incident, the girl's family registered a case.
