Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials of Telangana seized various medications like Khadirarishta, Ekanagneer Ras, Simhadi Guggulu, Stonil 24 Tablets, Ayur Phala Neem Leaf Powder and Diclodan Forte Tablets for their misleading advertisements, overpricing, and distribution by unlicensed practitioners.

Prohibited medicines under scrutiny

Officials from the DCA have identified and seized several medicines circulating in the market in Khammam with misleading claims, contravening the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

Among the prohibited claims were treatments for tumours, paralysis, kidney stones, fever and rheumatism by the aforementioned drugs. G Prasad, assistant director, Khammam, emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, ā€œAdvertising medicines for such conditions is strictly prohibited under the act.ā€

Raids and seizures

In separate raids, the DCA confiscated specific products found in violation of regulatory standards.

Additionally, the DCA cracked down on overpricing of pharmaceutical products. The DCA seized overpriced antibiotic ointment ā€˜Mupima Ointment 5gmā€™ at a medical shop in Beeramguda, Sangareddy District.

G Srikanth, drugs inspector, Bollaram, stated, ā€œThe firm overpriced the product, charging an excess of Rs 75.40 per 5 gm tube, violating Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.ā€

Crackdown on unlicensed practitioners

Furthermore, raids were conducted on clinics operated by unlicensed practitioners, commonly known as quacks, at three separate locations across the state.

B Praveen, drugs inspector, Medchal, highlighted, ā€œSubstantial quantities of medicines stocked for sale without a drug license were found.ā€ AN Kranthi Kumar, drugs inspector, Vikarabad, added, ā€œOfficials found higher generation antibiotics and steroids, posing serious risks to public health.ā€

Furthermore, the DCA conducted raids on clinics operated by unlicensed practitioners, commonly referred to as quacks. These individuals were found stocking and selling medicines without a proper license, posing significant risks to public health.

Stringent measures assured

Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy, IPS, stressed, ā€œStringent action will be taken per the law against all offenders.ā€ He also urged the public to report any complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines through the DCAā€™s toll-free number.
