Kothakota: ASI caught with woman in compromising position at police station; suspended

Anakapalle: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was caught with a woman in a compromising position at Kothakota police station in the Anakapalle district.

Identified as A Appa Rao of Ravikamatham police station, he has been suspended and a departmental inquiry was initiated against him.

Appa Rao was posted at the Kothakota police station for ten days due to a shortage of staff. The ASI would retire from the service in a couple of months.

Police said that while attending duty, he consumed liquor and brought a woman to the police station on Sunday night.

Head constable Joshua opposed ASI's act of bringing a woman to the police station and attending the duty under the influence of liquor. But Appa Rao would enter into a heated argument with the head constable.

Later the head constable informed the station house officer (SHO) Syed Illias Mohammad and sub-inspector Appala Naidu.

Syed Illias Mohammad said they reached the station immediately and found the ASI with the woman in the station. Two home guards also witnessed the ASI's behavior with the head constable.

"We have escorted the woman home. ASI Appa Rao has been sent to the Narispatnam hospital for medical tests to establish the blood alcohol content (BAC)," he said.

Superintendent of Anakapalle, Gowthami Sali said they suspended the ASI and a departmental inquiry has been initiated.

Police said that it is not the first time that Appa Rao was suspended. When he was head constable at Kothakota police station, he was suspended for his nexus with the sand mafia, police added.
