Hyderabad: A local court sentenced a man to four years imprisonment in an SC/ST Atrocities Act case.
In August 2015, the Jawaharnagar police received a petition from S. Mahesh Kumar (38), a resident of Yapral, where he said that in 2014, he had purchased a plot (200 sq yrds). On 15 July, he went to Pushkaralu and when he returned, he noticed that M. Venkateshwara Rao, a teacher, had constructed a structure on the plot. Rao told him that it was an oversight and offered another plot but Mahesh Kumar insisted he give him back his plot.
After a few days, Mahesh Kumar approached Rao to claim the plot but the latter abused him in the name of his caste. This happened again after a few days.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Jawaharnagar police station. An investigation was undertaken and a charge sheet was filed.
During the trial held on 10 March, the SC/ST court at LB Nagar convicted Rao to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000.
