Machilipatnam: Lady doctor hacked to death; police form 3 special teams to nab culprits

Machilipatnam: Unknown assailants hacked a lady doctor to death at her house in Machilipatnam of Krishna district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Dr. Macherla Radha. She was the wife of top pediatrician Dr. Umamaheswara Rao. The couple owned Venkateshwara mother-child hospital in Javarpet. They were residing on the top floor of the same building.

The incident happened on Tuesday between 6 pm to 10 pm when her husband was in the hospital. He found her dead when he returned home at 10:30 p.m.

The assailants slit her throat and stole the gold ornaments that she was wearing. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the location and started gathering evidence with the help of a clues team and a dog squad.

"Dr. Umamaheswara Rao visited the hospital to attend OP at 6 p.m. When he returned, he found her dead in the living room. We have formed three special teams to apprehend the culprits," said DSP Madhav Reddy.

Police found that the CCTV cameras in the building became defunct due to a short circuit three months ago.

"The assailants snatched away two chains and ten bangles she was wearing, They threw chilli powder in her eyes. I found her lying in a pool of blood in the living room. They did not enter any other rooms. No money was stolen. Even the silver idols in the pooja room were left untouched. The maid comes during the day for work. We don’t suspect anybody. It might be just the plan to snatch her gold," the doctor said.

The case is under investigation.
