Telangana: Mahabubabad CI arrested for taking bribe of Rs 2 lakhs

Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Karri Jagadish, circle inspector of Police in Thorrur, Mahabubabad district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for blocking an arrest order.

On October 2, 2024, the accused officer demanded a bribe amount of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant to show official favour, i.e., to instruct the sub-inspector of Danthalapally police station, not to arrest the complainant in case number 132/2024, to issue a 35(3) BNSS notice to him, and to ensure that he is not harassed in the future.

Initially, Jagadish accepted Rs 2 lakh and demanded the remaining amount. The ACB said the accused officer performed his duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage. The details of the complainant were not revealed due to security reasons.

The ACB registered a case of criminal misconduct against Karri Jagadish who has been arrested and will be produced before the III Additional Sessions Judge for SPE & ACB Cases, Warangal. The case is under investigation, according to a press release issued by the ACB on Monday.

The ACB officials urged people to call 1064 (toll-free number) to report any public servant asking for a bribe.
