Maharashtra: Two injured, vehicles damaged in protests for Aurangzeb poster.

Mumbai: Ahmednagar continues to be tense as two people were injured and vehicles damaged in stone pelting. A morcha was organized in protest by a right wing group for allegedly carrying posters of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The demonstration was carried out in the outskirts of Sangamner town.

Heavy security is deployed due to tension in the area, the police said.

"The morcha ended at around 12 noon. The incident took place near Samnapur village, which is five kilometres away from Sangamner, where some anti-social elements from the returning crowd allegedly pelted stones and damaged two vehicles," Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola said.

"Two locals received injuries in the incident," he said. After the incident, police reached the spot and the miscreants were dispersed, he said.

As tension prevailed in the area, heavy police security was deployed in and around Samnapur, the police official said.

"The situation is now peaceful in the Samnapur area and people should not spread any rumours. Action will be taken against the culprits," he said.

Case against four

Police have registered a case against four persons for allegedly carrying posters of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb during a procession in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, a video of which has gone viral, an official said. The procession was held in the Fakirwada area at 9 am on Sunday.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said such acts will not be pardoned. "If someone flashes a poster of Aurangzeb, it will not be tolerated. In this country and state, our revered deities are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj," he said.

The opposition leaders state that law and order needs to be maintained as there are recurrent incidents being noted in the state.

There must be a proper investigation carried out as to who is instigating these youth and creating social media videos to disrupt harmony in the state.
